Hello fellow riders.
My freewind doesn't have any spark anymore.
I had some problems with the electrical system. The ignitionkey gave a electrical short, blowing out the main fuse.
It took some time to find out that this was the problem, and I was also busy with other stuff, leaving the motor cycle for a standstill for a few months.
Now I fixed the ignition key by hotwiring the wires to make it work.
But now I seem to not get a spark anymore. I don't think its related to hot wiring the contact lock, because for a bit it was actually working.
I changed the sparkplugs, ignitioncoil and spark plug caps for new ones. Battery is also fine at the correct voltage.
I was hoping anybody could give me some tips for troubleshooting this. I have a multimeter, but i am not very skilled with electrical systems.
Thank you
No spark on freewind

Re: No spark on freewind
Du you change the wires from the Ignition key? Right to the next connector?
There ist a Resistor in one wire. Its the protection against shortcuttig.
Without the resistor the ignition wont work.

Re: No spark on freewind
I took the ignition key away. It was making the short. I can't find one online so I shortcut/hot wired it. So then this could be the problem! But then my memory is not right on this, because I thought it was working for a little bit.
In the service manual I can't find anything about this resistor. What kind of resistor is it? Or do you know on which page I can find this?
Thank you so much!
Re: No spark on freewind
OK. I'm not really sure for the Freewind.
In the ignition lock of the GSX-R an the TL1000S ist a resistor. Not in a wire.
So you can't shortcut it. Its the anti-theft device.

Re: No spark on freewind
Yes there is a resistor in the ignition lock. Its a 100ohm resistor.
Its in between the orange-yellow and black-grey wire.
This resistor stopped my bike from getting the spark! So now it works again.

Hey... A new one from the low countries...
Welcome !
I'm no technician, so I could not help out with the problem, but I see it has been solved.
For support you have come to the right place.
As far as I know it's the only Freewind forum in the world.
That's why I joined myself many years ago when I still had my Freewind.
Maybe you could introduce yourself in the "Vorstellung - Das bin ich ..." thread.
Tell us a bit more about your biking history...
The last one who did was a fellow Dutchman too.
Have a nice time and enjoy this wonderful Forum and a wonderful bike.
Regards,
Huib aka Old-timer.
