Speedometer no longer working

Hi,
I am sorry I am posting in English but I do not speak German. This is my first post although I have been trying to read the forum using the http://www.google.com/language_tools to automatically translate the website. Unfortunately it doesn't allow you to log in to post.
Last Saturday I had to stop in an emergency at the traffic lights (did a mini stoppie) and when I started moving again my speedometer just stopped working.
My local garage had a look and they found that one of the teeth on the rounded black circular bit that sits inside the speedometer sensor housing was broken and said that the entire speedometer sensor had to be changed as the Suzuki parts fiche says that you can't get the broken bit separately.
They said that I need to get the entire part 18 in the figure:

The part alone costs £122 (150 Euros?) and it seems a bit excessive. Did my fellow XF650 riders find a cheaper replacement or a compatible part from another motorcycle as my understanding is that this is a common fault on the XF650?
