fit fuel tap - normal condition or not?

Yesterday i took my FW down. When i disconnected fuel hose from Carbureuter and from tank - i've sighted, that fuel dropped a little (1 drop per several sec) from fuel valve.

Positon "ON" is setted.
Fuels volume in tank - less than 4 L.
Environment temperature~about +4 degree Celsius *if its important? :)*

May be something wrong with fuel valve?
Its my first bike, my first disassembly procedure )))

I thought, that fuel moves by setting "ON" only when works vacuum chamber.. Its correct?

Hi Hechicero

well - you are right. Fuel is running with vacuum prodused by the carbs only. Is the engine off, no vacuum is present and no fuel should run in the position "ON" nor in position "RES".

Maybe the inner sealing from the fuel valve is worn. First off all you should try the position "RES". If this position is also leaking, the fuel valve should be replaced.

I don´t know if the fuel valve can be disassembled. Maybe it´s possible.

Vaty

Thank you, my friend! :)

How do you think:
1) Is small leaking from the fuel valve able to interrupt carburetor's working?
What will happend? Mixture too rich?
2)Can I drive always with "RES"? :)

Normally nothing will happen, but since the bike is aging there is a probability that the float chamber valve is no longer sealing as well as it should. That means that fuel might flow through the carbs and into the engine. There it would dilute the oil, which might cause mechanical failures. Also, the engine may overflow, and starting it in that state might actually break the internals through high pressures.

You see, there's a lot of might, could, and would.

But personally, I wouldn't take the chances. The fuel valve is an off-the-shelf part by Suzuki, somewhere here in the forum's technical section you can find which other bike's spare will fit (from some Bandit, I think).

Of course. There is no major functional difference. The ON setting just leaves a couple of litres in the tank, switching to the RES setting releases this REServe. Mostly useless function thanks to the fuel gauge.

That is interesing and important moment. I have a problem with leaking carburetor too. So that when I solve it first - then i would verify all other parts, especially - engine. But questions about it will be in another topic.
Thanks!

Thanks, I'll find it.
