Mounting other turn signals

Hello dear XF650 forummers,
I'm typing this in English, because it's a bit easier for me to type than German.

Well my question is: would a normal turn signal (e.g. from AliExpress) fit with some adaptor plates without any modifications?
I'm looking at my own old turn signals, but I don't know if some new ones will fit.
I have bought some plates for an SV650, but they won't fit in the front.
I haven't checked it yet in the back.

Reason why I want to mount new turn signals is that I laid the bike on the ground 2 times, and the casings are cracked and let water trough.
That's why I want to replace them to some newer style signals, while they are not so bulky.

In the service manual chapter 6-30, it looks like the front turn signals are mounted differently than the rear ones.
Rear ones are mounted with just a bolt and nothing else, the front ones are mounted on a bracket with a screw.

If someone has changed their turn signals, please tell my how you did that, it'll be very helpfull!

yes you will need a (plastic) bracket for the front turn signals.
Some people actually cut their own from some spare thick plastic.

Damn, now I know why they won't fit, mine look different than those you send.

Since I've bought those turn signals from a local store (21€/set), the time of delivery was drastically decreased.
Here's a pic of my bike now




I had to remove the whole front fairing (including windscreen, that's why there are missing bolts), just to install the turn signals.
It was about 2 hours of work in total.
But it looks good, that's what counts

Your bike looks good. .. aside from the headlight. This looks waaay too foggy.

Some questions:
What is the type of those Handguards? Was it a big effort to mount them? I'm still searching for decent ones.
How did you attach the front fender? I totally dig the sporty look

i have a combination of turn signals and Handguards... bougth at Louis...

mounting them isnt a big deal... if you want i can make better pictures of the handguards...

@infocalypse: thanks! I know that there's a white dust on the inside of the headlight, but I'm still not sure how I can get that out.
I bought the handguards in dutch moped shop (online).
It took a long time to figure out how to mount them without damaging the tank fairing (but still I managed to make some scratches in it...

They are a copy of the Acerbis Rally brush handguards.
These ones: Link (NoEnd Rally universal)

You have to make sure that you have longer bolts and enough washers to mount these, because it was a lot of work...

Now to attaching the front fender so high:

How to:
1) Cut the front fender in half (arrows (6) indicate factory screw holes) and drill 2 holes that correspond with the horn bracket mounting holes. (1)
2) Use the original bolts that hold the front part onto the fork and put some washers on it. (2)
3) Use the factory plate that is behind the horn and put it on the fender (4)
4) Use a spacer that's about 3cm high and place it between the horn plate and the horn bracket (3)
5) Turn the horn bracket 180° so that the horn is the closest to you (5)
6) Make sure you still can connect the horn to your electrical system by bending the metal connectors 90°
7) Mount this to the factory horn bolt on points on the underside of the triple tree.
Also make sure you have adequate protection on the underside of the fairing that holds the headlight. The fender would jump around when you're riding
